President’s Address – Club Centenary Season

Dear Members, Players, Families, and Friends of Boroughmuir Cricket Club,

As we stand on the threshold of a brand new season, it gives me immense pride and genuine excitement to welcome you all to what is a truly historic year in the life of our club. This year marks 100 years since Boroughmuir Cricket Club was founded—a century of sport, community, camaraderie, and countless stories that have shaped who we are today.

A centenary is more than just a milestone. It is a celebration of everyone who has ever pulled on a Boroughmuir shirt, scored a match, umpired in the wind and rain, volunteered their time, or quietly kept the club moving forward when no one was watching.

I want to take this moment to acknowledge with gratitude the contributions of all our past presidents, club captains, umpires, scorers, and players who built the foundations we continue to stand on. We owe much of today’s success to their commitment and love for the club.

Equally, I would like to shine a light on the incredible work done by our current committee. So much of what keeps Boroughmuir thriving happens behind the scenes—hours of planning, organising, fundraising, booking nets, and ensuring that every member, from juniors to veterans, has a place to play the game we love. Thank you for everything you do.

This year also brings fantastic news for the future of the club:

For the first time in Boroughmuir’s history, we will be fielding three senior XI teams in the East of Scotland League. This is a remarkable step forward and a testament to the growing strength and energy around the club.

I’m delighted to announce that Subham Biswas will captain our new 3rd XI, and I’d like to wish him and the whole squad every success in the season ahead. They will be competing in Division 9, playing alongside Winchburgh Cricket Club, the first newly founded club in Scottish cricket for more than 15 years. It feels particularly fitting that while we celebrate our 100th year, they are celebrating their very first.

While Boroughmuir Cricket Club was originally founded for former pupils of Boroughmuir School, the club has evolved significantly over the years. Today we are proud to be an inclusive club that welcomes players and members from all backgrounds. Just as importantly, we remain committed to playing the game in the true Spirit of Cricket. I am particularly proud that within our club we now have five qualified umpires and a qualified scorer, reflecting our dedication to the game both on and off the field.

As part of our centenary celebrations, we have created a section on the club website titled “100 Not Out.” I have posted a story called “My First Cricket Tea” which is too long to include here but you can read all about it at : https://www.boroughmuircc.org/100-not-out. We would love to hear from you too. If you have a story — funny, memorable or historic — from your time with the club, please consider sharing it with us. Perhaps it was a famous cup win, a hat-trick, a match-winning century, a spectacular catch on the boundary rope, or simply a wonderful day spent playing cricket with friends. Every memory is part of our story, and all submissions are welcome and can be submitted to boroughmuircc@gmail.com.

We are also collecting photographs from days gone by to build a digital archive of club history. If you have any old team photos, matchday snapshots, or moments you’ve captured along the way, please send them in. If possible, include a brief description—names, dates, or the occasion—so we can preserve these memories properly.

To mark our centenary in style, we have a number of special events organised, including a Centenary Club Meal and a President’s Match on the 29th August 2026. I hope to see many of you there and full details will be made available soon. We also have a range of Centenary Branded Clothing in our club shop which will only be available this year, we have on-field kit as well as leisure wear, so now is the perfect time to show your love for Boroughmuir C.C. and to show you are part of its history. You’ll find this at https://www.thefootballnation.co.uk/boroughmuir-cricket-club/

As we step into our centenary season, let us honour those who came before us, celebrate who we are today, and look forward to the next 100 years of Boroughmuir Cricket Club.

Whether you are a player, a supporter, a parent, a volunteer, or someone who simply loves the game, thank you for being part of Boroughmuir Cricket Club. Here’s to a memorable season—and to the next 100 years.

Wishing all our teams the very best of luck for 2026.

Let’s make it one to remember.

Warm regards,

George Dickson
