ESCA Week 14 match reports

Week 14 of the league season, and if we had pundits they’d definitely be describing it as “the business end”.

The Third XI’s game against Morton 4 was called off on Friday, which left it to the Firsts and Seconds to bring in the points. As usual it was a mixed weekend.

The First XI hosted Tranent and Preston Village 2. Electing to bowl the boys, restricted T&PV to 153 all-out, with Nithishraj Saravanan’s 3 for 28 and Ben Risi’s 2 for a miserly 8 off 4 being the pick of the spells. In response the 1s knocked off the total inside 30 overs, with decent knocks from Abdul Ghaffar (33), Sharez Khan (36) and Nithishraj Saravanan (46*) keeping the 20 points at home.

So it was left to the Second XI to make the short trip to Double Hedges in search of the previously elusive 60 point weekend. And the 60 point weekend stayed elusive as the hosts skittled the 2s out for 55 (Extras being the pick of the batters). That wasn’t likely to prove a sufficient total at Double Hedges, and Kirk Brae knocked it off within 10 overs.
