ESCA Week 16 match reports

The third-last week of the season which, as ever, seems to have flown by. Let’s get it out of the way now… it wasn’t a 60-point weekend.

The Firsts made the short trip to Roseburn to take on Murrayfield DAFS 2. The hosts won the toss, elected to bat, and made 129 on what is traditionally a low-scoring wicket. Jamie Good (3 for 12) and Tom Ritchie (2 for 22) probably the pick of the bowlers, although everyone contributed. In response the boys fell a sickening 6 runs short in the final over, Kaling Singh having got them off to a great start, skipper Sharez Khan’s dogged batting keeping them in the game, and Jamie Good’s unbeaten 13 getting them within touching distance.

Over at Meggetland the Second XI were taking on Musselburgh 2 having lost the corresponding away game by a heartbreaking 3 runs. Electing to bat, the visitors posted a respectable 168, having rebuilt after 3 successive ducks by 3, 4, and 5. Ashish Parlani was agin the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 for 17 from 8. It all went a bit Pete Tong in response, as the boys were skilled out for 79.

So it was left to the Third XI, taking on Marchmont 5, to see if the club could scrape a win. They did it with some aplomb, scoring 146 in the first inning (Muhammad Sadiq’s 30 being the pick of the batting) before skittling Marchmont out for 40 in response. Matthew Batchelor the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 7 off 5.
