Centenary Dinner

The club celebrated its Centenary on 29 September 2026 with a match at Meggetland between a Captain’s XI and President’s XI, followed by a meal at Canalside where current and former players toasted Boroughmuir.

In a sign that the cricketing gods were looking kindly on the club, the weather was perfect for the match. Having lost the toss, Captain’s XI were put in to bat, setting a challenging total of 202. Nithish Saravanan was the pick of the bowlers for President’s, taking 3 for 24, but it was the batting that shone. Captain’s saw excellent innings from Marcus Cunnington (30) and skipper Sharez Khan (35) but the pick of the bunch saw Tom Reel mark his trip up from London with a superb 51. It was like the boy had never been away.

In response President’s struggled to get going, had a habit of running themselves out and, in the end, even decent knocks from Gajander Singh (45) and Nithish (31) couldn’t get them to a winning total. Ajey Chaudhary the pick of the bowlers for Captain’s.

The match was a delight to play in, and was ably umpired by George Dickson and Infant Wilfred, and scored by Martin Pickett, all three match officials coming from the club.

And so, to the dinner. Over 50 of us crowded into the upstairs bar at Canalside to be welcomed by Club President George Dickson, whose opening speech did a fantastic job of outing what makes the club special.

Following the meal we were fortunate to have a few words from ESCA President Peter Kingsbury, followed by the First XI Captain, Sharez Khan.

The formal part of the evening ended with the presentation by Club Secretary Jamie Good of trophies for the 3 players of the year, then the award of Life Membership to three players—Katherine Fraser, Charles Buchan, and Gus McLean.

After that, it was a chance for players to catch up, and share stories of games won, and lost, of absent friends and feared opponents. An evening that reminds you what makes the game, and this club, special.
